Game Recap

Season’s End

By: Michael Lindsey

Well Indian fans our football season has come to a close, after the last game of District play against Petrolia. The Tribe was lucky enough to have control of their own destiny, the old school win and you’re in scenario. At game time though Petrolia just played the better game defeating Haskell 35 to 14.

The Indians really struggled on both sides of the ball, but couldn’t get anything going consistently on offense, being shut out through the first three quarters. Sr. Alec Roewe had a good game on the ground carrying the ball 15 times for 133 yards averaging just less than 9 yards per carry. While Sr. Lane Burson got to put one last TD run in the books in the 4th quarter with only 1 carry but he took it 57 yards to the house for the only rushing score of the night for the Indians.

Defensively Haskell gave up a quick 13 points in the 1st quarter, but then they were able to shut the Pirates down until the 4th quarter. Then the combination of the running game and some missed assignments in the passing game led to Petrolia scoring 22 points in the 4th quarter.

Saturday Coach Benton had this to say about the game. “I want to start off by congratulating the Petrolia staff and players. Petrolia was who we anticipated them being. I want to thank my seniors; they have been a huge part in the changes in our entire program over the past five years. I hope this game has equipped them with the tools to conquer the next chapter in their lives. The best part about the game of football is the challenges that it presents. Learning how to overcome those challenges is the true reward for committing to what it takes to play this game.”
