The Haskell Indians fell to Hawley 3-2 on Friday on the final play of the game. Hawley was down 2-1 in the bottom of the twelfth inning when Culp singled off of Rocky Haggard, driving in one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Hawley pitchers struck out 17, while Haskell sat down seven.
Hawley took an early lead in the first inning. A wild pitch by Evan Green scored one run for Hawley.
Stokes earned the win for Hawley. He threw seven innings, giving up one run, eight hits, striking out 12, and walking one. Rocky Haggard took the loss for the Indians. He went one and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs, two hits, and striking out three.
Haskell had 15 hits in the game. Haggard, Reed Roewe, Green, and Alec Roewe each collected multiple hits for the Indians. Haggard led Haskell with four hits in five at bats and led the Indians with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.
Hawley collected nine hits. Jones, Culp, and Ornelas each collected multiple hits for Hawley. Hawley was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Stokes made the most plays with seven. Hawley stole 11 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Stokes led the way with four.
The Indians final game is Monday at 5 vs the district leading Albany Lioins. It is also Senior Night. Come Early…Be Loud.
