Maidens Finish Undefeated in District 8-2A.
The Haskell Maidens earned their fourth Undefeated District Championship in six years this past Tuesday night at home with their 60-37 win over the Albany Lady Lions. Haskell outscored Albany 30-16 the first half and continued to be the better team the second half to get the district win. Haskell finished the regular season with an overall record of 31-1 and a perfect 12-0 in district 8-2A.
The Maidens were led by Junior CEra Taylor who finished with a game high 23 points and 11 rebounds to get the double-double. Senior Ariel Martinez also helped lead the way finishing with 16 points in her final game at the Tee Pee.
Other leading scorers for the game were Taylor Manske with 8 points, Landry Hanson 7, and Senior Hollyn Hadaway 6. Leading the team in assists was Manske with 5, Hadaway 4, Hanson 3, and Bevel 2.
Haskell had a great night shooting the ball in their last home game of the season. They were (24-44) for 54% from the field, (4-16) for 25% from behind the 3 point arc, and (8-11) for 72% from the free-throw line. Offensively, I thought we did a really good job not turning the ball over and I thought we shot really well, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
The Maidens forced the Lady Lions to shoot 34% from the field. Defensively, the girls did a great job keeping the ball out of the paint and holding their best player below double figure scoring, Eddleman said.
Haskell won the rebound battle 21-16. C Taylor had a team high 11 rebounds followed by Manske with 7. Leading the team in steals was Hanson, Manske, and C Taylor with 1 each.
Overall, I was really happy for our three seniors that they got to win their last game at home to cap off an Undefeated District Championship. They will always remember their last game at the Tee Pee in front of a great crowd.
We have enjoyed having Heaven Rojas be a part of our basketball team this season. She has been a great teammate and really improved a lot. Hollyn Hadadway and Ariel Martinez stepped up big time for us this season and I am so proud of them. They have played a huge part in our programs success over the past six years throughout the Summer and Winter time. They have done a great job representing our basketball program, school, and community, Eddleman added.
Coach Burson and the JV Maidens beat Albany 37-20 last Tuesday afternoon to earn their Back to Back District Championship. They finished the season 19-5 overall and 10-2 in district. I am very proud of this group of girls and Coach Burson. They had to overcome a lot of adversity throughout the year, but they still found a way to have a great season and win another District Championship, Eddleman said.
On Monday afternoon, the JR High Maidens traveled to Hawley to take on the Lady Bearcats to officially finish up their season. Coach Martinez and the 7th A Team won 28-6. Coach Eddleman and the 8th A Team won 51-16. We are really proud of all three teams this year. They were fun to coach and they improved a lot throughout the season. We feel like they have a bright future moving forward, Eddleman said.
