Maidens Four Peat Complete.
The Haskell Maidens officially won their fourth consecutive District Championship and their fifth in six years this past Tuesday night at home with their 57-14 win over the Anson Lady Tigers. Haskell outscored Anson 37-10 the second half to get the district win. The Maidens move to 29-1 overall and 10-0 in district 8-2A.
Haskell was led in scoring by Junior Taylor Manske with 14 points, Senior Hollyn Hadaway 10, and Senior Ariel Martinez 10. Other scorers on the night were Landry Hanson with 9, CEra Taylor 8, Braelyn Bevel 3, and Ryanna Rodriguez 2. Leading the team in assists was Martinez with 6, Hanson 2, Rodriguez 2, Everett 1, Hadaway 1, and C Taylor 1.
The Maidens shot (23-49) for 46% from the field, (8-25) for 32% from behind the 3 point arc, and (3-10) for 30% from the free-throw line. Offensively, I thought we played with a good pace and we shot the ball really well from the field. The girls did a great job reading the defense and taking what the defense was giving them, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
Anson was (3-32) for 9% from the field, (0-15) for 0% from behind the 3 point arc, and (8-14) for 57% from the free-throw line. Defensively, the girls did an awesome job and it was probably the best defense that we have played all year. Any time you hold your opponent to only 3 made field goals and their best player to only two made free-throws, it is a great night on the defensive end, Eddleman said.
Haskell won the rebound battle 34-19. Junior C’Era Taylor led the way with 10 rebounds followed by Manske with 7, Martinez 3, Hadaway 2, and Rodriguez 2. Leading the team in steals was C Taylor with 3, Hadaway 1, Hanson 1, and Manske 1.
Overall, I thought we played at a very high level on both ends of the floor and I was happy for the girls that they clinched the District Championship at home. This team is special and I am so proud of them. They have stepped up all year long and embraced all challenges along the way. Nothing about this season has been easy, but they just keep making things happen and that makes it very rewarding, Eddleman added.
On Tuesday afternoon, Coach Burson and the JV Maidens beat Anson 30-25. They move to 18-4 overall and 9-1 in district.
On Monday afternoon, the JR High Maidens hosted the Hamlin Lady Pipers. Coach Martinez and the 7th A Team won 45-7. Coach Eddleman and the 8th A Team won 51-3.
