Maidens corral Lady Mustangs.
The Haskell Maidens outscored the City View Lady Mustangs 39-16 the first half to get the 63-30 victory on Thursday afternoon in their second game at the Wildcat Classic Basketball Tournament in Archer City. The Maidens improve their record to a perfect 13-0 on the season.
For the second game in a row, the Maidens had three players in double figure scoring. Ariel Martinez had 15 points, Taylor Manske 15, and Landry Hanson 14. Other leading scorers were CEra Taylor with 5 points, Braelyn Bevel 4, Hollyn Hadaway 4, Ryanna Rodriguez 4, and Heaven Rojas 2. Leading the team in assists was Hanson with 5, Hadaway 3, and C Taylor 3.
Haskell was (21-63) for 33% from the field, (8-27) for 30% from behind the 3 point arc, and (11-17) for 65% from the free-throw line. Offensively, I thought we executed well and we did a great job taking whatever their defense was giving us throughout the game, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
The Maidens forced the Lady Mustangs to shoot a very low percentage from the field. Defensively, the girls have played really well pretty much all year long and they have done a great job staying out of the foul penalty. The girls are very intelligent and they have been playing with a lot of discipline this season, Eddleman said.
Haskell dominated the rebound battle over City View. Manske had a team high 12 rebounds followed by Hanson with 9, C Taylor 5, and Krislyn Tatum 3. Leading the team in steals was Manske with 4, Hadaway 3, and Tatum 2.
Overall, I was very proud of the girls for how they played on both ends of the floor against Breckenridge and City View. We are playing with a lot of confidence right now and that is a great thing to have when playing the game of basketball, Eddleman added.
