Maidens take down Lady Buffs.
The Haskell Maidens made the long drive last Tuesday night to take on the Cross Plains Lady Buffs in District 8-2A action. Haskell outscored Cross Plains 38-6 the first half and went on to get the dominating 62-10 win. Haskell improves to 21-1 overall and 2-0 in district.
The Maidens were led offensively by the Hanson sisters. Delaney had a team high 16 points and Landry had 14 points. Other leading scorers on the night were Ryanna Rodriguez with 7 points, Taylor Manske 6, Melody Martinez 6, CEra Taylor 6, Calie Everett 4, and Emma Roewe 3. Leading the team in assists was Delaney with 3, Landry 3, Taylor 3, Melody 2, Calie 1, Emma 1, and Ryanna 1.
Haskell was (18-23) 78% from 2FG, (7-20) 35% from 3FG, (25-43) 58% from FG, and (5-7) 71% from FT. Offensively, I thought we executed at a high level and we shot the ball really well especially from the inside. Also, the girls did a great job sharing the ball and getting everyone involved, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
Cross Plains was (4-20) 20% from 2FG, (0-6) 0% from 3FG, (4-26) 15% from FG, and (2-2) 100% from FT. Haskell forced Cross Plains to turn the ball over 27 times. Defensively, I thought the girls did an awesome job pressuring the ball which caused them to turn the ball over a lot, Eddleman said. Leading the team in steals was Delaney with 4, Emma 4, Melody 3, and Ryanna 2.
The Maidens won the battle of the boards over the Lady Buffs 23-15. CEra had a team high 5 rebounds followed by Delaney with 4, Calie 3, Emma 3, and Taylor 2.
Overall, I thought all the girls played well on both ends of the floor. It was good district road win for us and I was proud of all the girls for taking care of business. We are looking forward to our first district game at home on Friday against Stamford, Eddleman added.
Coach Simmons and the JV Maidens got the come from behind road win over Cross Plains 32-28. Way to go ladies and Coach Simmons!
