Maidens hold off Lady Pirates to extend Home Winning Streak.
The 4th ranked (2A) Haskell Maidens hosted the always tough 12th ranked (1A) Eula Lady Pirates last Tuesday night. The Maidens outscored the Lady Pirates 15-7 in the fourth quarter to get the close 35-29 win. In a hard fought battle, Haskell extended their home winning streak at the Tee Pee to 35 games. Eula was the last team to beat the Maidens at home with their 50-44 win on December 1, 2015.
The Maidens were led by Freshman Melody Martinez who finished with 9 big points followed by Taylor Manske with 8, CEra Taylor 6, Delaney Hanson 5, Landry Hanson 5, and Calie Everett 2. Leading the team in assists was Landry with 3, Delaney 2, Emma 1, Melody 1, and Taylor 1.
Haskell shot (12-18) 67% from 2FG, (1-8) 13% from 3FG, (13-26) 50% FG, and (8-9) 89% from FT. Offensively, we just never got in a rhythm and we did not get to shoot very much due to their offensive game plan. I have never coached against a team that patient on offense in my entire career, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
Eula shot (8-20) 40% from 2FG, (2-8) 25% from 3FG, (10-28) 36% FG, and (7-13) 54% from FT. Defensively, I was very proud of the girls. They showed a lot of discipline and focus defending their patient 4 out 1 in dribble drive offense, Eddleman said.
Haskell won the rebound battle over Eula 21-12. Leading the team in rebounds was CEra with 6, Delaney 6, Emma 3, and Taylor 3. CEra, Emma, Delaney, Landry, Melody, and Taylor all had 1 steal each.
Overall, I was very proud of the girls for finding a way to win the game and keep our home winning streak alive. They showed a lot of discipline and determination to get the job done, Eddleman added.
Coach Simmons and the JV Maidens lost to Eula JV 35-28 on Tuesday. Coach Eddleman, Coach Martinez, and the JR High Maidens hosted the Hawley Lady Bearcats last Monday. The Mix B Team won big 32-2, the 7th A won big 43-11, and the 8th A lost a hard fought game 33-31. We are very proud of all the Maiden Basketball Teams this season and we greatly appreciate everyones support at our games, Eddleman said.
