Maidens Win 2018 Eula Holiday Classic.
The 4th ranked (2A) Haskell Maidens outscored the 16th ranked (1A) Eula Lady Pirates 23-7 the second half to get the 36-23 win on Saturday night in the championship game at the 2018 Eula Holiday Classic. Haskell improves to 19-1 on the season.
Freshman Melody Martinez led the team offensively with a 10 points followed by Landry Hanson with 9, Delaney Hanson 8, Taylor Manske 5, and CEra Taylor 4. Leading the team in assists was Taylor with 4, CEra 2, Delaney 2, Landry 2, and Melody 2.
After trailing the Lady Pirates 16-13 at half, the Maidens man to man defense clamped down on the Lady Pirates holding them to just 7 second half points. Defensively, I thought our pack line man to man defense was solid as a rock. The girls did a great job on the ball, off the ball, and communicating with one another. It takes a lot of discipline and intelligence to do what the girls did defensively throughout the entire game against a fundamentally sound Eula team. I was very proud of them, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
Haskell won the rebound battle over Eula. CEra had a team high 7 rebounds followed by Taylor with 4, Delaney 3, and Landry 2. Leading the team in steals was Landry and Taylor with 1 each.
Overall, I was super proud of the girls for winning the Eula Tournament. Their hard work, preparation, determination, and perseverance paid off. They played well against some really good teams and some really good coaches. I definitely think we gained some very valuable experience that will pay off down the road in district play and post season play, Eddleman said.
Senior Taylor Manske, Senior CEra Taylor, and Freshman Melody Martinez were named to the Eula Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team.
Seniors Taylor Manske and CEra Taylor won their 100th varsity game with their 65-17 win over Brady on Thursday evening at the Eula Holiday Classic Tournament. It has been such an honor and a blessing coaching Taylor and CEra the past four years. Both of them are great basketball players and even better young ladies. They have played a major role in our success over the past four years and they will be sorely missed after this season, Eddleman added.
The Haskell Maidens will be back in action for their last non-district games this Wednesday at home versus the Clyde Lady Bulldogs. JV starts at 1:00 followed by Varsity at 2:30.
