Maidens take down Lady Bulldogs for Bi-District Championship.
The 8-2A Haskell Maidens traveled to Bronte last Tuesday night to take on the 7-2A Miles Lady Bulldogs to officially kickoff the 2019 playoffs. The Maidens outscored the Lady Bulldogs 38-9 the first half and went on to get the 52-24 win for the Bi-District Championship. Haskell improved their overall record to 29-2.
The Maidens were led offensively by Senior CEra Taylor who finished with 15 points and Junior Landry Hanson who finished with 10 points. Other leading scorers were Melody Martinez with 8, Delaney Hanson 7, Emma Roewe 6, Calie Everett 2, Taylor Manske 2, Tanna Manske 1, and Ryanna Rodriguez 1. Leading the team in assists was L Hanson with 3, Martinez 3, D Hanson 2, Everett 1, Taylor Manske 1, and C Taylor 1.
Haskell was (14-32) 44% from 2FG, (5-17) 29% from 3FG, (19-49) 39% from FG, and (9-17) 53% from FT. Offensively, the girls were on fire the first quarter and that was pretty much a knockout blow that Miles was never able to overcome. It was an awesome way to start the game and the playoffs, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
Miles was (5-26) 19% from 2FG, (3-19) 16% from 3FG, (8-45) 18% from FG, and (5-11) 46% from FT. Haskell forced Miles into 20 turnovers. Leading the team in steals was Martinez with 4, D Hanson 3, Taylor Manske 3, L Hanson 1, and Roewe 1. Defensively, I thought the girls did a great job. They were able to hold their best player Brooks to only 7 points and their team to only 24 points, Eddleman said.
The Maidens won the rebound battle over the Lady Bulldogs 43-32. Leading the team in rebounds was C Taylor with 8, Roewe 7, Martinez 5, D Hanson 4, Everett 3, Taylor Manske 3, and Rodriguez 2.
Overall, I thought all the girls played well on both ends of the floor. We came out strong and put them away early. It was an awesome way to kick off the playoffs, Eddleman added.
