Maidens roll past the Plowgirls.
The Haskell Maidens traveled to Roscoe last Tuesday night to take on the Plowgirls in a District 8-2A match-up. Haskell outscored Roscoe 30-5 the first half to get the 58-14 road win. Haskell improves to 23-1 overall and remains undefeated in district play at 4-0.
The Maidens were led offensively by Freshman Delaney Hanson who finished with a game high 15 points and Freshman Melody Martinez who finished with 10 points. Other leading scorers for the game were CEra Taylor with 9 points, Landry Hanson 8, Taylor Manske 5, Calie Everett 4, Emma Roewe 4, and Ryanna Rodriguez 3. Leading the team in assists was Manske with 4, Martinez 3, D Hanson 1, L Hanson 1, Rodriguez 1, Roewe 1, and C Taylor 1.
Haskell was (14-30) 47% from 2FG, (7-16) 44% from 3FG, (21-46) 46% from FG, and (9-13) 69% from FT. Offensively, the girls did an excellent job reading the defense and passing the ball. I thought we shot the ball really well and that is always nice on the road, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
Roscoe was (6-22) 27% from 2FG, (0-6) 0% from 3FG, (6-28) 21% from FG, and (2-8) 25% from FT. Haskell used pressure man to man defense to force Roscoe to turn the ball over 29 times. Leading the team in steals was D Hanson with 6, Martinez 4, Everett 2, Manske 2, Roewe 2, L Hanson 1, and Rodriguez 1. Defensively, I thought our on the ball defense was really good which allowed us to get out in the passing lanes and get some steals, Eddleman said.
The Maidens won the rebound battle over the Plowgirls 32-16. C Taylor led the way with 9 rebounds followed by Manske with 6, Roewe 4, D Hanson 3, Everett 2, L Hanson 2, Martinez 2, and Rodriguez 2.
Overall, I was proud of the girls on both ends of the floor. I thought our defense really bothered them and that allowed us to get out in transition for some easy lay-ups and three pointers, Eddleman added.
On Tuesday afternoon, Coach Simmons and the JV Maidens defeated Roscoe 36-29. On Monday afternoon, the JR High Maidens traveled to Albany to take on the Lady Lions.
