Maidens roll past Plowgirls.
The Haskell Maidens traveled to Roscoe last Friday night to take on the Plowgirls in a District 8-2A match-up. Haskell outscored Roscoe 41-15 the second half to get the 78-33 road win. Haskell improves to 30-1 overall and remains undefeated in district play at 11-0.
The Maidens had three players in double figure scoring. Junior CEra Taylor had 22 points, Sophomore Landry Hanson 19, and Junior Taylor Manske 17. Other scorers on the night were Ryanna Rodriguez 9, Hollyn Hadaway 6, Ariel Martinez 3, and Calie Everett 2. Leading the team in assists was Manske with 7, Martinez 4, Hanson 3, Rodriguez 3, Hadaway 2, Bevel 1, and Everett 1.
Haskell had a great night shooting the ball on the road. They were (30-57) for 52% from the field, (8-20) for 40% from behind the 3 point arc, and (10-14) for 71% from the free-throw line. Offensively, the girls did a great job executing and knocking down shots. They did an excellent job helping each other get open and finding the open shooters, head coach Blake Eddleman said.
The Maidens forced the Plowgirls to shoot (12-41) for 29% from the field. Defensively, I thought the girls did a pretty good job for the most part. They held their best player to 0 points and I was very proud of them for doing that, Eddleman said.
Haskell won the rebound battle against a pretty tall Roscoe team 29-20. Manske had a team high 11 rebounds which gave her a double-double on the night. Other leading rebounders on the night were Hanson with 5, C Taylor 5, Hadaway 3, and Martinez 2. Leading the team in steals was Manske with 3, Hadaway 2, Hanson 2, Martinez 1, and C Taylor 1.
Overall, I thought we played great on the offensive end and pretty good on the defensive end. I was really proud of the girls for taking care of business and not having a little let down after winning the District Championship on Tuesday night, Eddleman added.
